I replaced 'skim milk' with 'half and half' for the cream base in a baked potato soup receipe.
On the bright side, it tastes amazing.
Unfortunately, it's so thick that I've turned it into a bread spread since it less resembles soup so much as a pot of oozing creamy fat. Danny wanted to know how many calories it had, but I couldn't tell him since I dumped in 3 cups of creamer and on the nutritional label they use units of 2 tablespoons =(

In five hours I will be waking up to drive my mommy to the airport. Home alone again until March 24th. I did not open a single textbook this weekend, which makes me wonder how I'm going to survive my Biology test this Thursday, and how that'll leave me any time to study for my Organic Chem. test next Tuesday. I'm doing a first rate job of fucking myself over.

Dear friends. If any of you still remember who I am, we should reconnect starting March 22nd and on. There's something depressing about the realization that I never see anyone unless they come visit me at work, and I'm finding out things like how Sasha stood up Kyle (a regular) on a date from co-workers. Wtf.
I think I kind of miss seeing people's faces and all. I'll be keeping mine crammed in various textbooks until the end of this horrible quarter.

Well party people, my parents are officially gone again and it looks like I won't be seeing either of them until further notice/the end of March. Before my mom left for San Diego (where, I might add, she is moving into the same apartment complex as a man she met online) she managed to outspend me, which is a pretty impressive task. Luckily, both our beds got beauty makeovers (350 thread-count cotton sheets and all the works), I have a new laptop (which Danny basically coerced me into getting because he knows stuff about electronics and I don't) and a color laser printer and wireless router which I have yet to set up. And then there's the usual clothing stuff and such. She also bought a $400 Coach bag, which makes me glad that I renounced any interest I had in pricey designer brands by, like, 7th grade. Honest to fucking god why would you want a sack that costs that much? Anyways. Her order for that custom-import BMW keeps on getting screwed up, as does my dad's "attempts" to wire large sums of money into her account, and I don't think it's any accident. I'm pretty sure my father is behind it and I'm very proud of him for making the entire thing look like a coincidence. Oh also, in her new spending frenzy, she's been going on a doctor kick, and in one of those rounds I got kidnapped and taken to an eye doctor. I now have glasses with updated prescriptions (I am going steadily blind like my parents, and there is a budding stigmatism in my right eye) and I also got contacts. Three sets of contacts, in fact. Clear ones, and then a pair of gray and green color contacts. The colored ones are fucking awesome. I didn't see that many people yesterday, but Peter and Alex Win noticed the gray ones right away, which surprised me because I'm not that observant and such. I've been eating out a lot and getting fat since my mom's pretty insistent on maxing out her credit card. We went to Ruth Chris (which has terrible food and I was really disappointed, only the service there is amazingly attentive) and Palisades, which is fine because I love that place. I took Whiskers back to the Humane Society (she got adopted last week) and now I have a 10 year old female cat named Wilbur.
My entire life consists of studying now. I have my first chemistry test and my second biology test next week (both of which I am completely not prepared for) and I'm not sure when my biology lab practical is (but I'm sure that it will pretty much destroy my life I'm scared) and I have a speech test today in a couple of hours. Oh, and a rock climbing quiz this afternoon. So yeah. My classes are kind of crazy. Even on days when I spend 8 hours studying (and I mean really studying, not getting distracted with AIM/the internet studying) I still feel like I've barely made any progress. Of course, most people realize that I probably don't get distracted with AIM anymore, since I'm kind of never on that/the interwebs in general. Textbooks > my life. Um... what else to say. Danny slept over last night and I woke up at 6 am and have consequently stayed up since because my vagina hurts. Yeah. I can't tell if it's just sore from too much usage or if I have a UTI (they're popular on my mother's side) so I'm trying to schedule an appointment with Planned Parenthood. Also, I need more birth control pills since pregnancy would greatly hinder my academic studies and all. I gave away half of my work shifts for this week, but I kept the two I have with Sasha since I miss seeing her. I kind of miss everyone now. Only I'm too freaked out about school to think about it for too long. =/ I can't wait for spring break. School is going by so fast now. I feel like I'm barely managing to catch up with all the material in my classes right before tests, but so far I always pull it together just in time. On my first speech test, I got a 47/49. I was pleased.
I am also looking out for Cherie's bridesmaid dress in the mail. I can't wait to get it.

02 December 2006 @ 07:29 pm
I slept in until 1 pm today. It's now 7:30 pm and I've barely done any studying which leaves me with tomorrow to cram for all my finals.
Danny came over (hence the reason why I woke up) and we did our chemistry lab for 2 hours. Then he left and since then, I've tried to complete the second half of it (why the fuck is it so hard?) and now I'm printing out old tests for Biology so I can retake them to see what I know. I have to read an entire god damned unit of my Biology book (think 150 pages of incomprehensible material) and then review another 200 pages. It's not possible. Someone who is getting an A from Richter said that their grade is a reflection of what they learned in Biology 101, not what they've been taught this year. Which is totally true. Whenever I answer a question right it's because I remember learning it in Nelson's class with Nurina from 10th grade, not because I've learned anything this quarter. Ughhhhhhh.
Okay. So tonight, I'm going to try learning the last unit, and studying chapters 14 and 15 from my chemistry book. Tomorrow is working on math statistics, reviewing the first section of my biology book, and studying chapter 16 and 17 from my chemistry book. Monday is sititng for my math stats test, then reviewing the second section of my biology book and studying chapters 18 and 19 of chemistry. There is my life for the next three days. I've been pretty good about not picking up my phone or text messaging or anything... hence why when I checked my inbox 10 minutes ago it was 100% full and I was unable to receive any new messages.
I hate school. Thank god for drugs that make me want to study. Bye.

CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH + ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI. At the Showbox in October. Together. They're playing two nights in a row, Tuesday night being all ages. -SPASM-
I want to be the first teenager to get a fake ID not to buy alcohol, or to get into night clubs, but to be able to see live music.
This is the first show I've really wanted to see in like, a month. Not counting Bumbershoot, even though the lineup this year is kind of lacking.

My chemistry final is over. It was really hard. I thought I studied a lot, but there was still about 15 points/105 points worth of stuff that I had no idea how to solve. Hopefully he'll just give me an A.
Time to go study up on AIDS than call that pharmacy department back.
Then work.
Then either hanging out with Lindsey or knocking down Stephanie's front door out of joy to have her back here for the rest of the summer.

The new Blood Brothers album (due out on October 10th) leaked at the end of July. I clicked my music community filter today to see that the two latest posts were for the album (Young Machetes) and yeahhhh I haven't moved from my computer for the last hour because I want to listen to the entire thing. It's a whopping 15 songs, but track 14 is incomplete and the last one is missing. Nevertheless, I am very fucking happy and did not expect it to be making rounds on LJ this early. Even the bittorent sites I use don't have it up yet.
Even though everyone thought that it would be even more mainstream than Crimes, it actually reminds me more of their earlier work. All majority of the songs on Crimes fit together like melodic puzzle pieces, while anything before Burn Piano Island pretty much sounds like spastic thrashing about. This isn't as chaotic as their earlier stuff, it's smoother and the free-writing association lyrics are back, though what really struck me by the time they got to their fifth song was 'Wow, this is dark.' I mean their music is always discordant and clashing, but usually it's pretty upbeat. So I googled up an interview with Johnny Whitney to find out what the hell was going on (yeah I'm fucking obsessed with any music he creates and I was upset at the thought of him being upset when he made this CD), and apparently he wrote a lot of the songs on the Coheed & Cambria tour. And he said that some of his pessimism from having to get up to play in front of an audience that expected mainstream music on a really long tour leaked into the new album's sound. They're going on to launch their CD promo tour with And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead near the end of October and they think that will be a better match than their lineup with C&C. Obviously.
Another thing that surprised me was that Johnny said that Crimes was a lot more directly politically oriented (lyric wise) than this new CD. I always thought that Neon Blonde's Chandliers in Savannah was packed with social commentary, and a really good song on Young Machetes is 'Lift the Veil, Kiss the Tank' (I like that name), but I guess I completely missed the political undertones in Crimes.
They think that they'll use Lazer Life as the first single, but they have a lot of other stronger options. Such as We Ride Skeletal Lightning and Lift the Veil, Kiss the Tank. I mean I know mainstream means 'tone it down' but Lazer Life is borderline boring compared to the complexity of some of their other songs.

I am suddenly reminded of why I didn't buy an iPod from the beginning.
I'm listening to mine fucking... kill itself and it's the scariest sound in the world. If I lose the music I have on it... 5000 songs... I'll seriously go crazy. I tried using 3 different ways to extract music off of it, and I restarted my computer with my iPod still connected to it after my computer was having issues shutting off. Now it shows the Apple logo against a black lit up screen for about 5 seconds, the backlight dulls and it's still on for another 5 seconds, then it shuts it self off for one second before flickering back on to start the process all over again.
I'm so worried about it. >.<
Now I have to wait until the morning when it runs out of batteries, but I'm pretty sure the hard drive is trying to commit suicide. Ugh. What a way to end the weirdest weekend of my life.

HOLY SHIT IT'S SNOWING SO HARD.
God it's so gorgeous, me, [info]__rini, [info]4__letter__lie and [info]frightfulpanic went outside during lunch and Nuri and Lauren would try to catch snowflakes on their tongue and Wang was freezing her ass off in an esimko jacket and sandals and it seriously the prettiest sight in the entire world.
I love Seattle. I love my high school and the way everyone can sit on the second floor of the cafeteria and stare out the wall of glass at the gray skies opening up overhead and the evergreen trees growing around the building catch clumps of snowflakes as they're falling down and there are always a bunch of prats out in the front of the school having a snowball fight and the cars in the parking lot look indistinguishable from one another in a white-brushed blanket and there is no way you can hate the world when it's snowing.

Paraphrased instructions of [info]__rini's paraphrased instructions.

Set your playlist on random and write down lines from the first 15 songs that come up.
K GUYS BE REALLY COOL LIKE ME AND WRITE DOWN RANDOM SONG LYRICS FLOATING AROUND IN YOUR HEAD AND HAVE YOUR LJ FRIENDS GUESS THEM. AND IF YOUR FRIENDS ARE REALLY SMART AND SNEAKY THEY KNOW THAT ALL THEY'LL NEED TO DO IS LOOK AT THE 'LISTENING TO' SONGS FROM THE ENTRIES YOU'VE POSTED IN THE PAST WEEK.
I'm really sure I've mentioned/posted the lyrics to all these songs on LJ before. ~_~
I'm posting four lines to each song because I know no one but Nuri will do this and I want to make it easy for her to google if she's uncertain about one.

1. All we do is talk, sit, switch screens
as the homeland plans enemies.
...passive attraction, programmed reaction
more information, cash masturbation

2. As we would lay and learn what each other's bodies were for
And this is the room
One afternoon I knew I could love you
And from above you how I sank into your soul
Into that secret place where no one dares to go

3. This won't be the last you'll hear from me: it's just the start.
I hope that he keeps you up for weeks like you did to me.
I will hold a candle up to you to singe your skin.
Brace yourself: I'm bent with bitterness. I can't forsee.

4. My office glows, all night long
It's a nuclear show and the stars are gone
Elevator, Elevator
Take me home

5. Your mouth is open wide
The lover is inside
And all the tumults done
Collided with the sign

6. These high school words have lost their power
Their meaning bleeds right through this page
I state my case and you impale yourself
On points to you I wish I'd made

7. Choose the highest bidder was my answer
when they told me I was up for sale
Schoolyard, junior high star
The recessboys tried to buy the better girls, but they failed

8. Now my face is grotesquely deflated.
And all my typewriters,
They're clicking heavy metal lyrics.
Everything’s turned to shit

9. Ice has covered up my parents hands
don't have any dreams, don't have any plans.
Growin' up in some strange storm,
nobody's cold, nobody's warm.

10. And I am a writer, writer of fictions,
I am the heart that you call home.
And I've written pages upon pages
trying to rid you from my bones

11. These hot machine years burning time across your face
See the smoke stacks rising up like fuck you towers?
My girlfriend sang like a hummingbird today
until that cough stole her voice and fed it to the furnance.

12. Sick to death of my dependence, fighting food to find transcendence
Fighting to survive, more dead but more alive
Cigarettes and speed to live and, sleeping pills to feel forgiven
All that you contrive, and all that you're deprived

13. It's good to be in love
It really does suit you (just like everything)
I'm happy your in love
'Cause every color goes where you do

14. I don't mind the weather, I've got scarves and caps and sweaters,
I've got long johns under slacks for blustery days.
I think that it's brainless to assume that making changes to your
window's view will give a new perspective.

15. I can't pick my favourite part of this song )

1077 The End presents
Deck The Hall Ball 2005
"Home For The Holidays"
A Benefit for The Vera Project
Featuring:
Death Cab For Cutie
Harvey Danger
Aqueduct
The Saturday Knights
Thursday December 8th at the Showbox

What the fuck is going on? Please tell me they plan on announcing more bands or admitting 'jk guys' about the location. I've been waiting for Deck the Hall Ball since I moved back, hearing everyone rave about seeing The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, and The Shins all at one concert sounded like a dream come true. I was waiting to be blown away by the bands that they scheduled for 2005. But come on, this line up? Death Cab is good, but I'm already paying $36 to see them on November 18th, seeing them three weeks from then when they're exhausted from their national tour won't be that great. Plus, since it's a huge commercial concert, they're probably likely to play songs from only Trans and Plans. Harvey Danger is all right, but nothing I'd want to pay money to see for the second time. I've seen Aqueduct two times, which is one more time than I needed to, since they do the exact same show with the exact same cues everytime. It's boring. I've never heard of The Saturday Knights, but if they're opening before Aqueduct, then that kind of makes them suck by default (pessimistic as that might sound).
My other complaints? It's on a THURSDAY NIGHT. AT THE SHOWBOX. You'd think that if they're going to host it at a small venue (they probably did that on purpose because there's no way they could fill up a big place with that shoddy lineup), they'd at least book it for a decent night. Paying $35 to go to the Showbox on a schoolnight for a bad lineup is not my idea of a good time. I paid $18 for one day at Bumbershoot, when Harvey Danger, Aqueduct, and DCfC all performed.
The only nice things I have to say about this show is that it's the night after my Fall quarter finals, which means I'm going to it in order to help myself forget how utterly I failed my math exam the night before. Plus, Death Cab for Cutie is headlining. -sighs- I'm Ben Gibbard's bitch, I don't think there are that many other artists who could get me to the Showbox on a Thursday night at the cost of $35.
